How to Make Your Paintball Scopes and Paintball Hoppers Get Along

We were yakking on the Tactical Paintball Sniper Facebook page and Logan asked the question about his hopper and scope configuration.

He said: “My sniper mods came in yesterday! theyre sweet but big problem, hopper wont fit with scope on. will a 50 round hopper not have that problem?”

Here’s my response and why.

My experience has been that regardless the scope/hopper combination, the hopper crowds out the scope.  The feedneck (even on the Tippmann Cyclone feeders) is just too close to the top rail.  There are  two solutions to this problem.

Solution #1 – Skip the scope.  Just leave it off.  You can be an extremely effective sniper player without a scope.  In fact, if you see a scope on a paintball rig and they haven’t used Solution #2 below, I will almost guarantee you that THEY ARE NOT using that scope during play.  Unless they employ a Qloader setup, they won’t even be able to get a scope on.  Or if they somehow can get the scope on, you can’t get your eyes down low enough to get the scope picture with a mask on.  Enter Solution #2.

Solution #2 – Use an offset rail like the 32 Degress Offset Rail Mount.  An offset rail mounts your optics (or tactical light or laser sight) just off to the left of the top rail.  It attaches by means of the top rail but sits a couple inches left, kinda like riding side saddle.  You can get two general styles, one with a top and side offset rail or just the top offset rail.  Rap4 carries the best selection.  Here are a couple of examples.

BT Paintball Gun Dual Universal Offset MountThis Dual Offset Mount allows you to mount virtually anything optics, sights and scopes you want. It is compatible with Tippmann A5, Tippmann 98, Spyder MR2 MR3, PCS US5, Storm, Ariakon, Miltech, Armotech, BT paintball marker, T68 pistol, or any other paintball markers with a 7/8 weaver or 20mm picatinny rail. With this offset mount, you can take your aim easily because your goggle does not get in the way. Your hopper is complete out of sight.

32 Degrees Universal Offset Mount / RailThis offset rail allows you to mount virtually anything optics, sights and scopes you want to your Tippmann A5, Tippmann 98, Spyder, Storm, T68 Pistol or anything paintball markers with a 3/8 dove tail. With this offset rail, you can take your aim easily because your goggle does not get in the way. Your hopper is complete out of sight.

a rail riser and an of set hopper work fine for me, i also use a AK47 type top rail to rais the rail even more, the quick release rail riser is very useful for quick change from day scope to night vision scope for those night missions or 24 hr games. hope this helps others.

I would almost always suggest using an dot sight(Red dot, or eotech) Primarily because they can be used with both eyes open thus not sacrificing your peripheral vision. Also, even with a T9.1 and First strike rounds(Doug if you haven’t looked into these two systems you are really missing out man!) I couldnt justify an all out scope.
